Tamari Marinade (and meet the kids)

There was a time in college when I was a vegetarian. This was really not by choice, but rather mostly because I couldn't really afford meat. I held onto my vegetarian-ness for a few years, occasionally eating chicken when offered. One day, I just started to eat red meat again. To this day, I don't eat it a lot--maybe a couple of times a month during BBQ season--but still, a vegan I will never be.
Here's a great marinade for your next BBQ this summer.
Tamari Marinade
1/4 cup sesame oil
1/4 cup Tamari
2 T Worcestershire sauce 2 T hoisin sauce
3 big shallots minced (cloves of garlic can be substituted)
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp ground cumin
Mix together. Marinate steak (NY strip steak is in the picture above) for at least a couple of hours.
While the steak was grilling, guess who wanted to try some? Left to right: Tomba (our friend's B&B's dog), Ruby (ours), and Zuzu (ours, too).

Those really look good. I almost always marinate my steaks with soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and pepper. That's it. I could do something completely different next bar-be-que so maybe I'll try that recipe.
soy sauce is a GREAT mariade! i love it particularly with pork.
I marinate my pork with lemons or limes, salt, pepper, garlic, and either thyme or coriander, depending on my mood.
My mother though uses soy sauce for her pork chops. They're delicious. And we both serve pork with either freshly sliced apples or apple sauce.
This marinade looks like it would jazz up a cheaper cut of meat quite well. We can't afford NY strips!
Hi! Thanks for posting on my site--it helped me find yours. I'm always looking for a good marinade and I like the combination of flavors in this one. I'll definitely give it a try for my next BBQ!
That circle of hungry dogs made me laugh! My dog Max would be right in there with them.
The marinade looks great. I'll try it on chicken too.
looks like a great marinade. zombieslayers sounds good too! Maybe we could get him to give us moreexact mesures!
great site .. I'll definitely stop by again! enjoyed the dinner chat earlier this evening with you and Husband - and scratches between the ears for Ruby & Zuzu.
by the way - another good basic cooking site I enjoy is http://www.cookingforengineers.com/ - I love the recipe layout that he does - bom appetito.
